Her philosophically inspired work spans three decades.
Michele Ogilvie is a Los Angeles-based expressionist artist with three decades of experience working with a variety of materials.
Ogilvie's painting style is defined by bold colors, fluid lines, and a dynamic sense of movement. The expressive qualities, innovative use of materials, and embedded symbolism create unique and meaningful compositions.
Her work continues to explore existential concepts such as fate, chance, transience, and loss. Many viewers have noted that her pen-and-ink renderings evoke Orwellian conversations about utopian and dystopian themes.
Using a variety of materials, such as clay, wood and metal, her sculptures strive to capture the vulnerable and inquisitive anthropomorphic and zoomorphic qualities of animals and humans.
Zen in the Art of Ceramics
expresses our connection to the Earth. Working with clay is a reciprocal act of healing—a heart-to-hand meditation that aspires to bring peace, balance, and repair. Ogilvie often uses clay in her work.
Urban Didj represents a break from tradition, emphasizing sound and visual aesthetics, as each receives equal attention in Ogilvie's instruments. Today, many contemporary musicians incorporate didgeridoo sounds and rhythms into world music, pop, beatboxing, electronic, and contra music, as well as shamanic rituals and sound healing.
Ogilvie brings over 30 years of experience as a professional fine artist, designer, illustrator, art director, and educator. Working with secondary, university and independent students, she has taught a wide range of disciplines, including Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, 3-D Design, Color Theory, Photography, AP Studio Art, and Studio Problems in Teaching Art.
